Overview

The Mediterranean bonnet snail (Semicassis undulata) is a medium-sized marine gastropod belonging to the helmet and bonnet snail family, Cassidae. It is native to the Mediterranean Sea and parts of the northeastern Atlantic Ocean, including the Macaronesian Islands and waters off Portugal. Previously considered a subspecies of the Western Atlantic Semicassis granulata, it is now recognized as a distinct species.

Distribution & habitat

This species is primarily found throughout the Mediterranean basin. Its range also extends into the northeastern Atlantic, specifically around the Macaronesian Islands and the coast of Portugal. Like other members of the Cassidae family, these snails are typically associated with sandy substrates in shallow marine environments.
