SeaLife is a free marine species guide built for divers, snorkelers, and anyone curious about life underwater. The site and mobile apps cover more than 1,000 species across the Mediterranean, Indian Ocean, and tropical Pacific.
What SeaLife covers
Each species page includes a scientific name, common names in English and French, photos, habitat and depth when known, morphology filters, distribution hints, IUCN conservation status when available, and short field anecdotes. You can browse by taxonomic group, search by name or appearance, or ask the built-in AI chat for help identifying what you saw on a dive.
Regions and data
Species are tagged by sea or ocean region so you can focus on what you are likely to see locally. Descriptions and anecdotes are curated for divers, not academic taxonomy. Taxonomic placement draws on iNaturalist and related open sources, with editorial review before publication.
Who builds it
SeaLife is built and maintained by Louis Thomas, an independent developer based in France. The project started as a practical field guide for Mediterranean diving and grew into a bilingual web and mobile reference used on boats and beaches.
Mobile apps
SeaLife is available as a free app on iOS and Android. All species content is included with no in-app purchases.
